The field of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery deals with the surgical treatment of diseases of organs inside the thorax (i.e. Lungs, Hearts, Aorta) and vascular system (Arteries and veins) of the body. A thoracic surgeon will perform Coronary Artery Bypass surgery (CABG), repair / replacement of heart valves, surgery of congenial heart defects, arrhythmia surgery, all types of lung surgeries and vascular surgeries. Cardiovascular disease refer to all diseases of heart and arteries and venous system. The symptoms and treatment of disease depends on set of organs / arteries involved. In Coronary Artery disease, atherosclerotic plagues (inflamed fatty deposits in blood vessel wall) obstructs the blood flow in the coronary arteries. Narrowing of these arteries is called arterial stenosis. When a blockage is severe enough to reduce the blood flow significantly, especially during increased demand (i.e. during exertion or emotions), it results in pain in chest, also known as Angina Pectoris. The acute obstruction of coronary arteries because of rupture of plaques & development of thrombus leads to Myocardial Infraction or heart attack. In valvular heart disease repair or replacement of valve is done depending on extent of damage of the valve involved. In peripheral artery disease, obstruction occurs in the arteries of the legs. This results initially in pain during walking and later on, when disease progresses it causes tissue death or gangrene of the part involved. All types of vascular surgeries are done at our Institute by highly qualified and trained surgeons. The treatment facilities provided in Cardiothoracic surgery include all type of open and closed heart surgeries. This was the first private hospital in this region encompassing Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to start such facilities in and around the year 1993-94. To facilitate such surgeries the Institute has two Cardiothoracic operation theatres, three Surgical intensive care Unit and requisite support trained staff. During the bygone period of more than a decade, more than, 5000 open heart surgeries have been conducted at our hospitals. The treatment is provided by highly qualified & trained Surgeons and a team of Doctors and other supporting staff. |
