In furtherance of its object of providing medical education the Institute has recently started a nursing school located at Indira Bridge, Hansol, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The trust has been providing medical treatment since more than two decades and all along the management felt inadequacy in nursing staff quality and availability. The quality nursing care as is required in micro surgeries and intensive care is not available. This, it was felt, was because the education in local nursing schools is provided in local Gujarati language and good nursing students from places like South India. Maharasthra and other places generally preferred to be employed in Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. Thus hardly any good nurses migrated to Ahmedabad. To meet with this problem in and around the state of Gujarat, the management decided to make available quality nursing education and training in English medium locally at Ahmedabad and thus provide good quality nurses to the medical fraternity and society. Thus took the birth of `Nursing School’ activity of the Gujarat Research & Medical Institute. The activity is furtherance to its charitable purposes of medial relief.

The Nursing School provides education and training of `General Nursing and Midwifery’ (G.N.M) diploma course. It is a 42 months (3-1/2 years) course initiated on approval of the Indian Nursing Council and the Nursing Council of Gujarat. The education and training is imparted in English Medium. Students.

As such the nursing profession, along with the development in medical field by way of research and technological advancements, has radically changed. It is no longer immediately comparable with Florence Nightangle’s legacy, but is evolved as a science that involves the whole of patients mind,  body and spirit, promotes his spiritual, mental and physical health by teaching and example, stresses health education, health preservation and ministering to the sick, involves the care of the patient, of environment, social, spiritual and physical, gives health care to the family, community as well as the individual.

The purpose of the General Nursing Programme being imparted is to prepare general nurse who will function as a member of the health team with competencies of first level position in both hospital and community. The nurse completing the course will therefore be able to demonstrate awareness of and skills required in the Nursing process in the provision of health care and nursing of patients. They will be competent to assess the nursing needs of individuals, plan appropriate action to meet their needs, take appropriate action to help people retain or sustain their best of health, work with other members of the health team and evaluate thy effectiveness of nursing and health care activities.
