Urology is the field of surgery that focuses on the urinary tracts of males and females, and on the reproductive system of males. In men, the urinary system overlaps with the reproductive system, and in women the urinary tract opens into the vulva. In both sexes, the urinary and reproductive tracts are close together, and disorders of one often affect the other. The organs covered by urology include the kidneys, ureter, urinary bladder , urethra , and the male reproductive organs ( testes , epididymis , vas deferens , seminal vesicles , prostate and penis ). The discipline combines management of "medical" (i.e., non-surgical) problems such as urinary infections, and "surgical" problems such as the correction of congenital abnormalities, treatment of stones in urinary tract, enlarged prostate and the surgical management of cancers. The hospital provides treatment by Endo-Urology, ESWL, Laproscopic Urology, Nd-Yag Surgical Laser, Urodynamics, and others. Treatments provided by the hospitals include Infertility surgery, Reconstructive surgery, Uro-oncology, Andrology, Urogynecology, Pediatric Urology, Arteriovenous Fistula, CPD Cannula Placement, voiding dysfunction, sexual dysfunction and male infertility. Also included are Prostatitis , circumcision , Benign prostatic hyperplasia, Cystitis, Prostate cancer , Bladder stones , Kidney stones , Bladder cancer Development of the urinary and reproductive organs and others. We also provide the assessment and treatment of incontinence. Urodynamics is a study of the pressure within the urinary bladder and is done at our hospitals. Also used are diagnostic techniques such as flow cystometry or ambulatory urodynamic profiles to determine the best method of treatment for the patient. This could include medical prescription (e.g. oxybutinin or multiple alpha-blockers) or surgical intervention (e.g. urethral suspension/slings). The hospital was among one of the first in the region in and around 1991-92, to install and use Extracorporeal Lithotriptor for non-surgical removal of urinary stones. The system has since been replaced by modern equipment. The hospital has a Nd-Holmium Yag Surgical Laser. It was also among the first hospitals to treat urology diseases using Surgical Laser. The hospital has done thousands of stone removal by non-surgical methods i.e. using Lithotriptor or surgical laser. The department on an average does 5-7 major surgeries per day in addition to the minor procedures. Such surgeries include Endoscopic surgeries and Laproscoipc surgeries. For carrying out these surgeries and other urology procedures the hospital has separate operation theatre, Lithotripsy theatre, Laser Theatre, investigation/ procedure room and others. The operation theatres are equipped with all types of latest electronic equipment and instruments for use in surgery and /or uro-procedures/ investigations. The discipline works closely in co-ordination to the disciplines of nephrology , andrology , gynecology and oncology . All the services are available during all 24 hours and on all 365 days of the year. |
